Mucuna Seed

$48.30

Mucuna Seed (Mucuna pruriens), commonly known as velvet bean and in Ayurveda as kapikacchu, is a tropical climbing legume native to Africa and tropical Asian countries. Mucuna plants produce showy, purple-pink flowers that are pea-like in shape. After flowering, they develop elongated pods resembling beans or peas, and inside are smooth, kidney-shaped seeds which are used for their medicinal properties.

Mucuna Seeds have many traditional uses, primarily related to neurological health, mood enhancement, libido, stress management, and overall well-being. They're most known for supporting the nervous system as a natural source of levodopa (L-dopa), an essential precursor to the neurotransmitter dopamine. Dopamine promotes relaxation and calm while helping maintain healthy muscular movements, proper sensation, and healthy coordination and motor skills. Some other bioactive compounds found in Mucuna Seeds are the neurotransmitter serotonin, 5-HTP (5-Hydroxytryptophan), flavonoids, phenolic acids, alkaloids, and amino acids. The alkaloids mucunine, mucunadine, and mucunadinine may have neuroprotective and antioxidant effects.

Mucuna Seed has been shown in scientific studies to:

  • Support a healthy nervous system

  • Support normal dopamine levels
