Oregon Grape (Liquid Herb)

$73.05

Oregon Grape (Mahonia aquifolium) is a small shrub with spiny leaves and clusters of bright yellow flowers that bloom in the spring. It produces small, blue-purple berries that resemble grapes, hence its name. Oregon Grape is native to western North America, particularly the Pacific Northwest region of the United States and parts of western Canada. It belongs to the Berberidaceae family and is closely related to the barberry plant.

The root of the Oregon Grape plant has been used medicinally for centuries. The indigenous people of the Pacific Northwest used it for both food and medicine. They mixed the tart berries with sweeter berries and ate them raw. They also made the bark and root into tea for indigestion, immune support, skin conditions, and other complaints. The plant's roots, bark, and berries contain bioactive compounds, including berberine, alkaloids, flavonoids, and tannins, which contribute to its potential health benefits. One of Oregon Grape's main active constituents is the potent alkaloid berberine, found only in the root and bark. Also found in other herbs like barberry, Goldenseal, and Chinese goldthread, berberine is known for its antimicrobial activity, positive effects on blood sugar, and more.

Oregon Grape has been shown in scientific studies to:

  • Help maintain a healthy gut mucosal lining

  • Support a healthy intestinal environment

  • Support healthy digestion and elimination

  • Support liver health and detoxification

  • Promote healthy blood sugar levels

  • Support a healthy cardiovascular system
